CHICHA: Psychedelic Cumbias from Peru
Years ago, a child approached him to Stephen and said:
- "Stephen, I play the organ as the Archangel Gabriel"
- "As there, son." Someday you'll be the greatest "
Y so it was that the boy learned to play the organ by the hand of Stephen. That child was called Pablito Lescano.
However, the relationship between Stephen and cumbia Calamucha years ago and was born elsewhere in the world.
(photo: courtesy of Mr. Pepe Le Pew) Back in the 70's, Steve was forced to go into exile. Covered by his friend Nolberto Solano, decided to settle down in Peru.
It was there that he came into contact with many talented musicians and the musical genre known as "chicha". Stephen, who at that time did not have any money, decided to start a business venture from this genre.
For this, along with several of the groups most famous chicha in Peru, as Juaneco y Su Combo and Los Diablos Rojos, and began recording with them a compilation bringing together the best of this genre.
However, constraints on the emergence of paramilitary forces chased him from their country of origin, Stephen had to flee to the Middle East (known as his antics on the payments) and his project was cut short. The few tapes that they recorded were burned.
Years later, influenced by the spirit and mystique of Stephen, a group of youths decided to take back their forgotten project. Just got our hands "The Roots of Chicha", a compilation of the best bands of the 70 Peruvian.
hope you can enjoy it as Stephen would have wanted it, dancing to exhaustion.
We parted on this occasion with a sentence that Stephen spoke at the funeral of his grandfather, Esteban Calamucha Senior, and have given rise to one of the themes of this compact:
"Since my grandfather has died, taking drink taking drink. Lolelolelolá.
